While we were waiting for the tents to arrive, we decided to start with the restaurant.
On this journey we met Juan Pablo Mardones and Maureen Jones, two talented chefs who shared our vision. Through conversations and tastings, we created UNAI RESTAURANT together, complementing the accommodation with a cuisine that rescues the best of local ingredients and transforms them into dishes full of flavor.
They quickly became part of the UNAI family, contributing both their culinary talent and their commitment to our dream of creating an experience that captivates all the senses.

Our story began in 2020, when the world was stopping due to the pandemic. Pablo, an enthusiastic political scientist and nature lover; María Jesús, a recently graduated designer full of ideas; and Patricio, an engineer with a passion for creating, found ourselves dreaming of something that still had no defined form, but we knew would be special.
What started as a conversation during the days of confinement soon transformed into a project that filled us with excitement: creating a unique hotel in San Pedro de Atacama that would combine luxury and nature and where we, its owners, would be present in every detail.
After more than five years of work, in June 2025 we opened our doors. UNAI is today what we dreamed: a sustainable luxury hotel in harmony with nature, served by its owners, where every detail tells a story and every guest becomes part of ours.
In the midst of creating UNAI, Blanca was born, the first daughter of María Jesús and Pablo. This beautiful event inspired us for the name of our project: UNAI, which comes from Unay, a word that in the Andean worldview symbolizes the first child, the elder brother, the beginning of everything.
This project and Blanca represent exactly that: the beginning of a new and exciting stage in our lives.
